Twilight Drinking Game!

March 20th, 2009

Ok, I admit it– though it’s the last time I will mention it on this blog– I’m a twihard… and to show just how twitarded I am I designed this set of Twilight drinking game rules for our upcoming Twilight dvd release party.  Guests will split up into Bella and Edward teams to find out which set of rules they will follow.

On the menu will be black vodka and cranberry cocktails, sangria, red velvet cupcakes adorned with edible ’sparkles’ and Twilight conversation hearts as well as a ‘vegetarian vampire’ crudite platter… among other Twilight-appropriate snacks.  Should be lots of campy fun!  I just hope the drinking game does the trick– I don’t think I can watch the baseball scene sober again.

Laptop Art

February 4th, 2009

A laptop is a loveable thing.  I love mine so much I wouldn’t dare put a sticker on it.  Others show their love in different ways…

Common Cents

February 3rd, 2009

Well I guess I just missed the Penny Harvest at Rockefeller Center but I think it was a great idea to raise funds for community organizations.  People love throwing change for some reason and will embrace any opportunity to do so.  Just look at how many pennies were collected at Rockefeller Center:

Movie Time

January 30th, 2009

I’ve been hearing a lot about Chinese New Year the past week, which reminds me of one of the best movies I’ve seen lately– In the Mood for Love.  Here I am swooning again over rich color and beautiful imagery, but this is no Marie Antoinette (Maybe I’ll post about that one down the road).  The colors, textures, and style in scene after scene are an inspiration in themselves, but beyond that it’s actually a good movie.   At once exuberant, melancholy, reserved and emotional, its quiet intensity draws you in and puts you… in the mood?

Cotton Candy

January 29th, 2009

Will Cotton has been one of my favorite artists since I was turned on to him by one of my college professors.  I’ve never been able to catch one of his shows in person, but I always enjoy coming across his work online and in magazines, so I was happy to see him featured in W magazine this month with some new work. If I had the time and motivation to paint, I would want it to be something pretty much like this– candy colored fantasies and pretty girls.

His newest paintings will be exhibited at the Mary Boone Gallery during February and March so all you Manhattanites are in for a treat!

I like bike.

January 27th, 2009

I’ve been looking for a new bike since my birthday and I just can’t decide.  I want long distance comfort with ride-around-town good looks.  Why does the guy at the bike shop look at me funny when I say I want a bike that looks cute?  I don’t think it’s too much to ask.  Anyway I think I’m leaning towards this:

…but the vintage bikes on ebay are also calling my name and I’ve always wanted a Scwhinn… in my typical fashion I’m indecisive.  Whatever I end up with it will have a nifty basket, sweet little bell (picked that up in Tokyo in anticipation!) and maybe I need one of these:

Happy Blogday

January 23rd, 2009

Congratulations to me (!) for completing my first week as an official blogger.  This is something I’ve been eager to do for some time, but I’ve already found it to be challenging in ways that I hadn’t anticipated.  I’ve gone into this mostly as an experiment, with the expectation that I won’t know what it is until I do it for awhile.  I am hoping that it will grow into something that does some good for someone, even if it’s just me.
Today I came across this quote from Jim Jarmusch that suddenly made me feel 100% better.  I think it’s the perfect pep talk for a new blogger (or anyone embarking on a new creative adventure).  Have a great weekend!

You are Beautiful

January 22nd, 2009

I’ve passed this sign near downtown LA a couple of times (usually while trying to find someplace for work and getting lost) and always thought it was a nice gesture by some eccentric locals.   Actually, it’s a network of nice people spreading this feel good message across the country (and beyond).

Here is an excerpt from their mission statement:
“The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We’re just attempting to make the world a little better.”

There’s actually a little more to it than that, so visit their website to read the rest or to participate in the movement– I think it’s a beautiful idea.

Cobbled Stones

January 21st, 2009

Who knew that tangle of chains in my jewelry box was a look?  I came across this pretty fantastic bit of bauble-ry from Tom Binns in the the Feb’09 issue of Vogue and had to look again.  A bit out of my price range but could it be that hard to DIY?

The mix of Claire’s Boutique style crystals, Grandmother’s pearls and fluorescent safety pins is perfection.  I have to admit, I have a weakness for neon.  I blame it on the 80s– I think I was scarred in my formative years.
Does this mean maybe I don’t have to retire these?
